Finding Inspiration: Haiku on the Mountain
When you connect with nature, you tap on your ancient wisdom; the stuff you are born with and gives you life. On a moderate-paced hike through Pilot Mountain State Park, you will be guided through the process of deepening your experience with nature and you may also receive tips for writing haiku. Haiku is an ancient form of writing that helps capture your experience. With a little playful practice, you may discover that this writing method can be lots of fun.
Mileage for these nature walks will be 3-6 miles depending on who is attending. We'll be on marked trails at the base of the mountain. The pace will be invigorating, and there will be a couple of brief stops to interact more fully with your surroundings. Closed-toed hiking shoes are recommended (waterproof if we've had recent rain). Come with your favorite writing and drawing tools! At the end of our hike, you will have about 30 minutes to sit with your journals or you can skip the writing part for an early departure. Your creative expression doesn't need to be shared if you decide to stay.

You're invited to share a poem, song, short story (500 characters or less), or video that resonates with you on a deep level. Whether your inspiration comes from nature, human experiences, moments of triumph, facing despair, forming connections, or other significant thoughts and emotions, we hope this reflection helps uncover your true essence and motivates you to keep writing.
Once you've polished your creation, please submit it using the form below. Volunteers will review your work and may recommend it for publication on this page.
